By October my desk is buried in fall worksheets, so here’s the set I’d actually print: fifteen pages, from letter tracing to mazes and a scavenger hunt. Each one is a separate PDF, so you can print one page for one child or a stack for the whole table.

Fall worksheets for preschool and kindergarten

Most of the pages suit ages 3 to 6. I’ve grouped them by skill so you can find what you need quickly. A few need scissors and glue, and the questions at the bottom of the page list which ones. If you only have time for two, I’d pick the counting page and the matching game.

Letters and words

1. Trace the Letters

All 26 capital letters sit inside pumpkins in faint outline, ready to trace from A to Z.

2. Trace the Words

Five pictures (apple, pine cone, acorn, pie and pumpkin), each with its word in light gray to trace.

3. Write the Word

Choose from the word bank and write the right word under each of nine pictures. This one needs a bit of spelling.

Counting and patterns

4. Counting Pumpkins

Count the pumpkins in each of four boxes and circle the matching number from the row underneath.

5. What Comes Next?

Five rows of repeating pictures (squirrels, baskets, owls, mushrooms) with an empty box for the next one.

6. Color by Number

A child leaps into a pile of leaves, with five numbered colors: pink, yellow, blue, green and purple.

7. Cut and Paste Trees

Cut out the four groups of leaves and glue each one in the box beside the tree with the same number.

Sorting and matching

8. Matching Game

Draw a line from each picture on the left (mug, sweater, umbrella, acorn) to the one that goes with it.

9. Leaf Color Sorting

Cut out eight leaves and glue them into the red, green and yellow columns.

Scavenger hunt

10. Scavenger Hunt Checklist

Twelve pictures to find outside, from a mushroom and an acorn to a boot and some corn, with a tick box beside each.

11. Scavenger Hunt Cards

The same kind of pictures on cards to cut out, hide around the room and hunt for.

Mazes

12. Acorn Maze

A leaf finds its way to an acorn through a small square maze. It’s a good first maze.

13. Long Maze

A winding maze with a girl on a broomstick at the top and a house at the bottom, with plenty of dead ends.

Coloring pages

14. Autumn Hedgehog

A hedgehog with an apple on its back sits among big leaves, with Autumn in bubble letters above.

15. Girl with an Umbrella

A girl holds a big flowered umbrella while leaves swirl around her, with lots of small spaces to color.

Getting more out of the set

Laminate the matching page and the scavenger cards, and children can use dry-erase markers and reuse them. Do the scavenger hunt on the playground first, then bring a few leaves inside for the sorting sheet. Before the counting page, let children count real acorns or buttons, so the numbers on paper mean something. For the mazes, ask children to trace the path with a finger before they pick up a pencil. You don’t need to use everything. I’d rather see a child finish three pages with care than rush through ten, so pick the ones that fit this week and save the rest for later.

Questions about these pages

What age are these fall worksheets for?

Mostly 3 to 6. The pumpkin letters, counting, matching and acorn maze are right for preschool. Writing words under pictures and the patterns page suit kindergarten better.

Do I need to print all fifteen?

No. Every worksheet has its own Download PDF button. The full set is there for when you want everything.

Which worksheets need scissors and glue?

Three of them: the leaf sorting page, the cut and paste trees and the scavenger hunt cards. Everything else needs only a pencil or crayons.

How do I run the scavenger hunt?

Take the checklist outside on a clipboard, or cut out the cards and hide them around the room. Our autumn scavenger hunt page has more ideas.
