Every fall, somebody in my class turns up with a bag of apples, and the whole room wants to know what is inside. These free apple worksheets for preschool turn that curiosity into ten printable pages: a life cycle cut-and-paste and poster, a parts of an apple sheet, counting, addition, size and pattern pages, letter A tracing and a taste test graph.
Print a handful on regular paper, set out crayons, glue sticks and a real apple or two, and you have a full morning for ages 3 to 6. Younger children color and count. Older ones cut, trace and add. Every page is a single sheet, so you can pick only what suits your group.

Apple Life Cycle Activities for Preschool and Kindergarten
Many children are surprised that a whole tree grows from one small seed, so the life cycle pages are a good place to start. Begin with the poster. It shows six stages in a circle with arrows: seed, sprout, young tree, blossoms, apple tree and apple. Read the labels aloud and let children color each stage while you talk about what comes next.
Then hand out the cut-and-paste page. Children cut out the six picture cards and glue them into the numbered boxes in order. It is harder than it looks, so keep the poster on the table as a guide. For a center, print the cards on cardstock and laminate them. Children can sequence the stages again and again with no glue, and you can reuse the set every fall.
Before the parts of an apple sheet, cut a real apple open on the table. Pass the halves around and ask what children notice. They will spot the seeds, the star-shaped core and the soft white flesh. Then give them the worksheet. The apple is drawn cut in half, with a pointer line to each part and the words in gray: stem, leaf, skin, flesh, seeds and core. Let children trace the gray words with a highlighter first, then go over them with a pencil. The thick line is easy to follow, and it feels like a treat.
Apple Math Worksheets: Counting, Adding and Patterns
Five of the pages practice early number skills. On count the apples, five rows hold 3, 6, 4, 8 and 5 apples. Children count each row and circle the right number from three choices. Remind them to touch each apple as they count, so none gets counted twice.
The apple tree counting page works the other way around. Six empty trees each have a number on the trunk, and children draw that many apples. Do not worry if the apples look like blobs. What matters is that the count matches, and you can check it together by counting out loud.
For the addition page, bring counters or real mini apples. If you have neither, red pom-poms work well. The five picture sums stay within 6, from 1 + 2 up to 4 + 2, so children can build each problem, push the two groups together and count the total before they write the answer. Objects first, numbers second, makes adding feel like a story and not a rule.
Two more pages stretch thinking. On big and small apples, each row shows three sizes: circle the biggest and color the smallest. The patterns page has AB, AAB and ABC patterns made of apples, leaves and blossoms, and children draw the next two. Chant the pattern out loud first, apple, leaf, apple, leaf, and the next shape usually pops out.
Letter A Apple Tracing for Early Writers
One page is for handwriting. It has a big gray A a to trace, rows of A, a and the word apple, and a large apple to color at the end. Say “A is for apple” as children trace. Let them follow the big letters with a finger first, then a pencil. Coloring the apple afterwards is a nice reward for careful work.
How to Run an Apple Taste Test in Your Classroom
A taste test makes the graph feel real. Buy three kinds of apples: one red, one green and one yellow. Check for allergies first. Slice each apple into small pieces and keep the colors on separate, labeled plates. Give every child one piece of each kind and let them take their time.
Then ask for a favorite. Do not tell anyone what to like. Print the apple taste test graph and color one box for every vote, either on a big copy at the front or on a small copy each child fills in. Red, green and yellow each have up to 10 boxes, which is plenty for a small class.
When the graph is finished, ask short questions. Which color has the most votes? Which has the fewest? How many more children liked red than green? Children who cannot answer yet can still point and count the boxes, and that is real graphing practice.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age are these apple worksheets for?
They suit children aged 3 to 6. Preschoolers mostly color, count and trace, while kindergartners can cut the life cycle cards, add and finish the patterns alone.
How do I teach the apple life cycle to preschoolers?
Start with the poster, then do the cut-and-paste page. Show real seeds and a real apple if you can. Laminated cards in a center let children practice the order again and again.
Do I need to print all 10 pages?
No. Each page is its own PDF, so print only what you need. If you want everything, the bundle holds all 10 pages in one file.
What supplies do I need for the apple math pages?
Crayons and pencils are enough. Counters, mini erasers or red pom-poms help with the addition page, and a few real apples make the counting more fun.
Can I use these apple worksheets in my classroom for free?
Yes. Print as many copies as your class, daycare or co-op needs, free and with no sign-up. Please link back to this page rather than posting the PDFs elsewhere.
